Music is the lifeblood of any party. It is the one thing that gets people out of their chairs and dancing, or lets them sit back, relax and settle into a really good time. There are many ways to have music playing, and the setting matters a great deal when deciding how to present it. If you are planning a bar mitzvah, an engagement party, a wedding or a prom, you need to decide how the music will be delivered.
There are many options to choose from. You can have a DJ perform at your special event, whether it is a wedding in Toronto, a school prom or a bar mitzvah. Another option is to hire a band to play live music. Both options are good, but some are better suited than others, and below we will point out the differences.
Comparing the cost
When deciding between the two, one thing to consider is cost. A live band can cost upwards of $1,800, depending on the band’s reputation and status in the community, and that may not include a singer, who can be a separate charge added on top. A DJ, on the other hand, tends to charge about half that price, depending on the package you choose and the type of event. As a general rule, the difference is roughly half.
How many people you deal with
A second difference between a live band and a DJ is how many people you deal with. With a live band there may be a manager, or you may have to coordinate with the whole band depending on the setup, whereas a DJ usually represents themselves. That way there is no need to worry about too many cooks in the kitchen, which can create problems.
With that in mind, Surround Sound DJ understands that this decision can come up, and as a DJ company we will do everything we can to make sure you feel confident in your choice. We understand the cost difference does not automatically make the decision easier, and we are always willing to work alongside a live band if you decide you want both.
